What Is IP Leak? How Do We Know About It?

The job of the VPN tool is to change the user’s IP address to an unreal address to remain anonymous in the Internet world. Sometimes, however, due to a phenomenon called IP Leak, the user’s actual IP address is revealed.

IP Leak, VPN, which stands for Virtual Private Network, is a great way to secure users, but one of the most important reasons to use a VPN is to change their IP address so that their real IP address and physical location are hidden.

On the other hand, when using a VPN, all your traffic on the Internet is encrypted and passed through an encrypted virtual tunnel. On the other hand, because of this virtual tunnel, hackers and attackers can not access your information.

One of the uses of VPNs is to access websites that you do not have access to geographically (due to sanctions or filtering) thanks to a change of IP address.

VPN service providers use tricks to hide the user’s IP address, which include using a shared IP address and not keeping the log. However, it is still possible to reveal your true IP address despite using a VPN, an issue known as IP Leak.

What is IP Leak?

This means revealing the user’s actual IP address despite using a VPN. This happens when the user’s computer or device, without knowing it, uses the default default server instead of the anonymous VPN server. We see an example of this in situations where we do not have access to a website or service through the IP address of our country.

If you use a VPN, your country and geographic area will be replaced by another country, and the VPN will pretend that you are in a region other than your main location.

However, sometimes even after using the VPN, you still can not access the website you want, and this is where your real IP address is being tracked. This means that the VPN is revealing the IP address or IP Leak.

It is interesting to note that in many cases the VPN server is not to blame for the IP address being leaked; Rather, most of the vulnerabilities in technologies such as browser plug-ins (such as flash), browsers themselves, mobile operating systems, etc. are the cause of this.

In some cases, DNS Leak also allows users to specify the actual IP address of the DNS Server. Of course, you should know that many DNS servers use the built-in DNS leak protection structure to prevent this problem.

How to find IP Leak?

To find out, first make sure you are not connected to a VPN, then log in to Google and enter “what is my IP address” to get your real IP address.

In the second step, now log in to your VPN account and select the server you want and connect to it.

Now go back to Google and see your IP address as before by entering the phrase “what is my IP address” . If the geographical area displayed is the same as the one you selected in the VPN, which is not a problem, but if it displays the same as the previous and practically original IP, it means that you have IP Leak.

Of course, you should know that there are also websites available for IP Leak testing, such as https://tenta.com/test/ .
