Suitable Job

What Is My Suitable Job? (Based On A Triple Model For Job Selection)

These Are Questions That We Have All Dealt With In Some Way At Different Ages. The Existence Of Various Types Of Job Interest Tests And Job Personality Tests And Numerous Clients To These Tests Also Shows The Seriousness Of This Concern Among Us.

In this post, I do not want to talk about these tests and their accuracy in finding a suitable job. But in this case, I had things in mind that I decided to write about here.

To answer the question of what job is right for me,  we must consider three important things. These three things that can be considered  as job selection criteria  are:

  • interest
  • Skill
  • Market needs

To choose the right job and research about the future job, it is very important to pay attention to all three cases, and not paying attention to any of them in choosing a job has the disadvantages that I will write about in the following.

The role of interest in choosing the right job (what job am I interested in?)

We have heard these interpretations of choosing a field of study and choosing a job from time immemorial: “Look for a job/field that you are interested in”. It is an undeniable fact that “we will do what we are interested in with better quality”. Maybe that’s why it is always a question for many of us how do we know what job we are interested in and what is my favorite job?

But the important question that arises here is how to find out what job we are interested in knowing these things?

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1

Our perception of what we are interested in may not be consistent with what we experience in practice. For example, I assume that I like “teacher”, but then when I experience “teacher”, I see that this was not what I wanted; Or I did not consider such a factor in this job and the interest I imagined for myself.

I remember I was in college early last year. And I just knew that I enjoyed solving math and physics problems a lot, I remember the math and physics and computer olympiad questions were also a very interesting challenge for me.

I did not know what university is? What are electrical and mechanical engineers supposed to do?

At that age, I had very little understanding of the post-university world and becoming an engineer.

In those years, it was as if no one who had access to these two disciplines was supposed to choose a discipline other than these two.

A servant of God arrived in those days and I do not know (I forgot!) With what argument he proved to me that yes, mechanics are suitable for me and electricity is not suitable, and that is how I realized that  I am interested in mechanics!

I remember years after I started as a student, I would go to the pulpit with confidence and express my great interest in mechanical engineering. But as time passed, the warmth of these exhilarating sermons diminished.

Now that I think about it, I’m not serious about what you’re really interested in. It seems that this issue should not have been of much concern to us; Or if it was a concern, we had to choose from the available options. In this case, there is a lot of pain and heartache, some of which I have already written in an independent article:

What did I know about my interest in the job? How did I know what my favorite job was called?

How did I know what the mechanical engineer was going to do?

let’s move on.

It is not bad to tell the story of one of my friends. I had a friend in the same years who changed his major after three years as a math student and took the experimental entrance exam intending to become a doctor. I remember in those years he said a lot about his interest in medicine for his future job.

Medicine was accepted. In the following years, he hesitated with me that I just liked to sing and write the same prescription from medicine, and I was disturbed by the lessons I was studying.

What do I want to achieve from expressing these personal experiences?

I want to get here to go and research the different aspects of a job before expressing interest, and beyond the basic definitions of a job, researching different jobs helps us to know the facts. Be sure to talk to people who have experienced this job for years. Ask them about the aspects of their job. Learn about the hardships of that job.

Let’s see if the idea that we have a job is real.

Once we know all the realities of that job, imagine ourselves doing it. Is it satisfactory?

I think the interest we feel in this job following this knowledge and our own imagination can be cited more than that initial raw interest.

2

Another thing that comes to my mind about job interest is that our interest in jobs has a range, and it is not the case that we are only 100% interested in one job and hate other jobs 100%!

This is a fact that we must take into account in our choices. It is not that one is only interested in cooking and not in any other job.

We have a spectrum that is a number between zero and one. Considering this fact and considering two other important factors in choosing a job, we can have a better job choice.

Impact of skills on future career

Skill is the ability to do a task. Regarding the role of skills in choosing a job:

1

Skills distinguish us in our jobs. In recent years, in the Iranian labor market, one of the grievances of employers and business owners is the severe weakness of the skilled workforce.

The more skills we have for a job, the better we can choose the right job for ourselves. If we think we are interested in a job, we must go and acquire the necessary skills for that job.

To know the necessary skills for each job, I have already introduced a site that you can visit.

2

I think when we talk about skills, we have to include talent. Naturally, it is better to try to improve our skills in a field where we have more talent.

When we have talent in the field, we will become proficient in it faster. It makes sense to go to these areas to gain skills so that we can get better output with less time.

I do not think anyone has any doubt that talents are different in us humans and that everyone is talented in a particular field/field.

To better understand our talents, we can go to the models that exist about talent identification. The weighty supplement site has very useful lessons about talent identification that you can access from the following link:

3

As far as I understand, interest and ability are strongly influenced by each other, and you may be interested in what you are most capable of.

We also need to work to gain skills and abilities in a field. In our society today, where people are not very hardworking, stubbornness can be a very big difference for us and lead to learning different skills and choosing a better job.

Regarding stubbornness, I suggest you read the following article, which also includes a book introduction on this subject:

Regarding the relationship between interest and skill, I suggest you read this article by Sadra:

If you think learning a skill is hard work and your past attempts to learn a skill (such as English or a piece of software) have failed, you must learn to learn first.

What does the market need for jobs?

You may find many jobs that you are both interested in and have good skills and talents. The question here is which job should I choose?

1

We have to put our feet on the ground. Being interested in a job that is not needed in the job market will make things very difficult for us. We can not hide the fact that mere interest and skill are not enough to choose a suitable job.

Accordingly, we should always have a look at the job trends and needs of the labor market, identity what jobs are needed more today and see which of these jobs is in line with our interests and abilities, and therefore choose the future job for ourselves. Let’s pay.

When in a job, the population of the able-bodied force is large, and instead, the need for a job for that job is not that much. Naturally, we should expect the price of this ability to below.

As I plan to write an independent article on supply and demand in the labor market soon (looking at the engineering labor market), I will defer further explanations to this article.

2

On the other hand, we humans give meaning to our own lives by giving meaning to the lives of others. This attention to the needs of the labor market is also very important in this regard. We will feel much better when we have a job that meets the real needs of others.

I think we should not forget this very important aspect in job selection criteria.

How do we relate these three to choosing the right job? (Guide to choosing a job and finding the best job for me)

1

I am a strong supporter of pragmatism.

In the case of interest, we can find out by the practical experience of a job where our interest in that job lies in the range I described earlier.

In terms of skills,  by experiencing the workplace in practice, we can benefit from on-the-job learning and make sure we have learned the skills needed for that job in practice, and of course, we must learn to learn.

Regarding the needs of the labor market, with the practical experience of that job, we can become more familiar with the real challenges of that job and see what is the position of people who have this particular job and how much there is a need for it it in the labor market.

If I go back to my undergraduate years, I will not miss a single day of practical experience in a real job. The amount of learning will be very high and what better time for that learning. A time when family and society do not expect us and with the label of student we can gain different experiences and not be under the razor of their criticism.

On the other hand, we do not have much responsibility in this period and we can even do internships with more ease and without less financial worries, and take the baggage full of experience with us to the years to come. The years when this low responsibility and lack of expectations from the family and society no longer exist.

In short, apart from the professions and arguments on paper, apart from all the tests of job aptitude and job personality, I think we should do our best to experience different job environments and explore to find a suitable job.

2

To get acquainted with different professions, listen to people’s life stories; And see what they have done. Read about people’s fractures.

These true stories can inspire us and open our eyes to the trilogy I have said about choosing the right job.

In one of the episodes of the “One Thing Good” series, I have introduced Internet programs that interview Internet business owners. If you are interested in this field, you might want to check out this program:

Thanks to advances in technology in recent years, the possibility of finding jobs than in previous years, we can double the life and work end and part of my time to work Nfrvshym to the rest of the time, we live. We can live our jobs.

In this regard, I have written articles entitled  Carnken series that I suggest you read about choosing the right job:

4

In my opinion, the three I talked about, namely the interestskills, and needs of the labor market, are not independent of each other. We need to consider all three at the same time to choose a future job. These three things also affect each other.

When we have a value-creating job that is in high demand in the job market and we have a good income from it, we are naturally more likely to be interested in that job. I’m not saying to focus only on earning a job, but it is a fact that income is an important factor in choosing the right job.

In the same way, for this job, we will have more motivation to acquire the necessary skills for it.

I also talked about the relationship between interest and skills, and I will not dwell on it anymore. In short, to pay attention to choosing the right job, we should pay attention to all three of these factors.

I hope to earn, working out the sense of outages in that experience. The job you are interested in, you have the necessary skills for it, and this job meets an important need of society and is valuable.

Postscript

In this post, I tried to ask questions such as what is right for me? How to choose your job? What job should we choose? Answer and help by providing a clear framework so that you can more easily find the right job.

If the concepts presented in this text were to be treated more carefully, this writing should have been much longer.

I just wanted to outline the general framework of what I had in mind. I hope to return to these concepts in the future and write about them again after further study in this area.

Remember that in any field you work in, you should always be improving your skills. In today’s job market, just having a degree will not get you a good job and you will be unemployed without skills.
