Crazy Cooling Of AMD Ryzen 9 7950X Processor Without Any Fan
We All Want To Have A Computer Without Fans And Free From Any Audio Noise. However, Ready-Made Products Are Not Always The Answer, And For This, You Have To Do It Yourself.
Recently, a user ran a high-powered Ryzen 9 7950X without fans using two 1kg pieces of copper. See details and exciting pictures in Hardware City.
Using a Ryzen nine 7950X processor without a fan
This system is installed inside the Streacom DB4 case, which is a case for closing fanless mini-ITX systems. Inside this case are an MSI MPG B650I Edge WiFi motherboard, a 16-core Ryzen 9 7950X processor, 64 GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 250-watt HDPLEX 250W ATX power supply was installed. The power is based on gallium nitride, also used to make high-speed mobile chargers.
Gallium nitride is a new semiconductor with significant advantages, such as better conduction of electric current than silicon, which has been used in constructing very high-speed chargers.
The DB4 case is equipped with a fanless (passive) cooler that supports a maximum of processors with a thermal design power of 65 watts, so this user had to increase its ability to keep the 170 watts Ryzen 9 7950X processor cool. Work and add a copper module to it.
For this work and to achieve a completely fanless system, two copper pieces with a weight of 1 kg have been used to dissipate the heat of the processor and motherboard chipset.
This system weighs 13 kg, of which 4.4 kg is copper, and the rest is related to the case and its parts.
Interestingly, instead of soldering the copper parts, this user used Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut metal-based thermal paste and Arctic MX-6 paste. In this system, additional copper pieces are connected to the case panel to exchange heat.
According to Tom’s Hardware, after two hours of using the Ryzen 9 7950X processor, the temperature of die number 1 has reached 95 degrees, and the second die has earned 90 degrees. The temperature of the motherboard chipset has risen to 77 degrees Celsius.
Although the temperature of this system without a fan is not too bad, this user has only used it for programming; Therefore, it probably meets the user’s need, and there is no need to install a fan.
