Windows File Explorer will lose some features and options in Folder Options. According to Microsoft, these features are no longer used, or other access methods have been added to Windows.
Removing some Folder Options features of Windows File Explorer
Microsoft said in a statement that many of the settings in Folder Options have been available in the Windows ecosystem for years and are currently not used by many Windows 11 users.
The scenes that will be removed from Windows File Explorer are as follows.
- Hide Folder Merge conflict feature.
- Always show icons, never thumbnails: turn on or off the preview of photos and videos.
- Display file icon on thumbnails
- Display file type information on Folder tips: Display file information with the mouse pointer on it
- Hide protected OS files
- Show drive letters: Hide or show the drive letter in File Explorer
- Show popup description for Folder and Desktop items: Display the description of the folder as a popup
- Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color: Color the font of encrypted and compressed NTFS folders
- Use sharing wizard
Microsoft says that all these options can be accessed through the Windows registry. However, removing some features, such as Show drive letters, especially when not activated, can cause problems for users.
