A Recent Study By Simpleghar Shows That Apple Is The Most Popular Brand Of Photography Devices, And This Even Includes Smartphones And Professional Standalone Cameras.

SimpleGhar analyzed more than 470 million photos to identify the most popular cameras among camera devices and phones. To obtain this number of images, this study used the Flickr site.

Flickr is a platform where photographers tell their audience what camera equipment they use. They do this by showcasing the best photos they’ve taken with their equipment. The important part is that Flickr photographers tend to share their settings by sharing the metadata of their photo files.

SimpleGhar analysis separates the information related to the photographer’s camera device and obtains accurate results. Based on data analysis in 100 populous countries, these results display the most preferred mobile phone camera devices.

iPhone 11 is the most popular smartphone

As mentioned earlier, the focus was on mobile phone camera devices and independent professional photography cameras. But one of the study’s key findings is that Apple’s iPhone 11 is the most popular camera phone based on photos on Flickr.

To be exact, there are 13,212,135 photos tagged iPhone 11 on Flickr. The iPhone 14 Pro Max, the latest iPhone model, has 1,894,379 tags. That’s a big difference, and the notable thing is that the iPhone 11 is now a four-year-old model.

Apple’s iPhone 11 was released with a dual camera on the back. Both sensors are 12 megapixels. The primary camera is an F/1.8 wide-angle camera with OIS, while the secondary camera is an F/2.4 ultra-wide sensor. These specs may not seem impressive, but they are enough to make the phone the most popular phone for photography.

Other popular phones for photography

According to this study, Apple iPhones dominate smartphone photography on Flickr. Apple models ranked in the top 24 most popular spots among all the photos the team analyzed. In comparison, the Galaxy S21 Ultra took the 25th spot, the first time we’ve seen a non-Apple device on the chart.

Next is the Google Pixel 6 Pro, which appears to be Flickr’s 26th most popular camera device. Interestingly, there is no sign of Sony Express in the list of top 30 phones. We don’t even have Honor, Oppo, and Xiaomi devices on the list.

Most popular camera phones by country

This study also took a deeper look at popular camera phones by country. Here are the highlights of this category.

• The iPhone 12 Pro Max is the most popular in the United States.
• iPhone 11 is the most popular in China.
• iPhone 13 Pro Max is the most popular camera phone in India.
• iPhone 13 Pro is the most popular in Japan.

Once again, we see Apple reigning supreme as the most popular camera phone in some of the world’s largest consumer markets. In addition, models from the iPhone 7 to the latest iPhone 14 Pro were the top devices in 62 out of 87 countries. Again, the iPhone 11 is the most popular.

On the other hand, phones from different brands, such as Samsung and Google, appear in the chart a bit.

The most popular camera

Regarding the camera, according to this study, Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is the most popular camera. This camera
has 11,761,586 tags on Flickr. On the other hand, Sony is in second place with the A7 III, which has 9,94,495 titles on Flickr.

Nikon, another big camera brand, is in fourth place with its D750. This camera has 7,948,418 tags on Flickr. Canon mostly takes the rest of the rankings, while Nikon and Sony have one more business in the top 10 list.
