Top 10 Ways to Fix Google Chrome Keeps Freezing or Crashing on Windows and Phone

Google Chrome is RAM-hungry for some reason. This browser takes up a lot of RAM on your device. For this reason, many problems may be, such as Chrome slowing down or hanging on Windows 10 or 11 or even Android phones. With the following three methods, the problem will be solved forever. Because I have been dealing with this problem for years, I put the best and simplest solutions in front of you. May you be saved!

Imagine you are working on something important, and suddenly your browser freezes or doesn’t open. Well, there are some solutions that you can do to fix Chrome freezing or hanging in Windows 10.

Two main reasons, according to my 14 years of experience!

Possible reason (lack of RAM)

Well, the most obvious and most likely reason for Chrome to hang on your computer is the lack of RAM. The computer is often low on RAM, and Google Chrome takes all of it. Low RAM is the most obvious reason. If your system RAM is less than 8GB or your Phone’s RAM is less than 6GB, it is most likely the reason for the hang. The way is that:

Inside Windows:

You probably don’t use many of the default Windows services if you have a Windows system. In many cases, these services take up some of the system’s RAM and the CPU and reduce the speed. Just disable the unnecessary ones.

To do this, search for Services on the search option at the bottom left (or you can also search from within the control panel). Open it. It has a picture as shown below:

According to the image above, to disable any service, right-click on it and click Properties. A picture will open as follows:

Now, as shown in the image above, to disable any service, select the Disable option for it.

But which services should we disable? You can disable the following 20 services without any problems (only the following 20 services):

  • Windows Mobile Hotspot Service
  • Bluetooth Support Service
  • Fax
  • Remote Desktop Configuration and Remote Desktop Services
  • Windows Insider Service
  • Secondary Logon
  • Downloaded Maps Manager
  • Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service
  • Offline Files
  • Windows Connect Now
  • Remote Registry
  • Application Layer Gateway Service
  • Windows Image Acquisition
  • Connected User Experiences and Telemetry
  • Retail Demo Service
  • Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
  • AllJoyn Router Service
  • Geolocation Service
  • Program Compatibility Assistant Service
  • Enterprise App Management Service

Then restart, and you will see that you will not have a hangi in Chrome or other programs!

Inside the Mobile Phone:

Enable Developer settings

RAM management is located in the Unlock Developer settings menu, which is disabled by default. To activate it, go to Settings -> About Phone and tap Build Number 7 times. A message will be displayed saying that the developer section of the Phone has been activated. This option only adds more features to your Phone, and there is no risk!

Now, if you enter your Android phone settings again, you will see a new option called Developer has been added! Open the Developer Options menu; for most people, it is located at the bottom of the settings menu. For newer versions of Android, you may access this menu from Settings -> System -> Advanced. After entering it, select the Running services option, which should be at the top of the list.

Now you can see all active services. Services are parts of software that run equations in the foreground for a longer time without user intervention. For example, services handle RCS messages. Usually, these services work without the user’s intervention, and the user may not even be aware of their existence. However, you may encounter problems from time to time,,, especially if you have a limited amount of RAM.

You can stop any unnecessary program and report it if it is causing problems. If you notice that your mobile phone is slow, don’t stop all services immediately. The apps will reopen and continue what they were doing.

The second possible reason (if you have high RAM)

Even if you have high RAM, installing the extension on the Windows Chrome browser can cause it to hang and consume many resources. The best way is to remove all unnecessary extensions from Chrome (we recommend 4-5 extensions at the end).

To remove any add-on, right-click on the icon at the top right of Chrome and select Remove from Chrome. That’s it! Or remove additional plugins like the following method:

First part: on Android

1- Restart the Phone first (power off)

2- If there is still a problem, close all open programs except Chrome to free up the Phone’s RAM

3- If there is still a problem, Chrome’s history is full, empty it as follows:

However, in some other cases, the cache memory or the presence of malware can cause Google Chrome to hang. So you can also check its solutions.
Second part: in Windows

The ultimate goal is to optimize Chrome and PC to free up more RAM; you can do this by following the tips below.
Erasing the data generated from surfing the Internet

This is the first step you need to take. Deleting the data collected by browsing the Internet and cookies is something you must do. It only enhances the user experience in Google Chrome. Here’s how to do it:

1-Open Google Chrome.

2- Click on the three dots icon in the upper right corner.

3- Click on the Settings option.

4- Go to Privacy and security from the left menu.

5- Click on Clear browsing data.

6- Go to the Advanced tab and select the time range on All time mode. Check the first four boxes and click on Clear data.

This! This should help fix the problem.

Update your Google Chrome browser

Keeping Google Chrome up to date is important not only for a good user experience but also security. Here’s how to make sure your Chrome browser is up-to-date:

1- Open Google Chrome and click on the three dots icon on the top right.

2- Open the Help option from the menu and click About Google Chrome.

By doing this, the latest updates will be checked. Google will update the browser in the background; you will be prompted to restart Chrome to update to the latest version.
Reset the browser

Reset will take your browser to default settings, and your data will be deleted from Google Chrome. Here’s how to do it:

1-Open Google Chrome.

2- Click on the three dots icon in the upper right corner.

3- Click on the Settings option.

4- Click on the Advanced tab on the left to open it. Then click on Reset and clean up.

5- Click on Reset settings to their original default.

Finally, click on Reset settings. This! Now the problem of Google Chrome hanging should be solved.

In addition, you can also scan for any malware. Using a third-party antivirus, you can perform a full scan of the system. You can also use Windows Defender for this.

Malware scan

1-Go to the Windows search bar, type Virus & threat protection, and press Enter.

2- Now click on the Scan options.

3- Select Full Scan and click on Scan now.

Let the Scan complete and if there is any malware or virus, you can remove them.

By reinstalling Google Chrome, the hanging problem will be solved

This is the last option to fix the problem of Chrome hanging in Windows 10. First, you need to uninstall Google Chrome:

1- Go to the Windows search bar, type Control Panel and press Enter.

2- Click on Programs and Features.

3- Select Google Chrome from the list, right click on it and then click on Uninstall.

Complete the process. After the installation is complete, you can uninstall it and install it again.

Go to the official Google Chrome website and download the latest Chrome browser. Install it on your PC.

Conlusion

With the above methods, the problem will definitely be solved, but keep this in mind, Chrome consumes a lot of RAM, but it is the best way to stay safe on the Internet because this Google program detects all malicious sites and prevents the theft of your information. Do not use any browser except Chrome! So, in order for it to function more smoothly, you should optimize Chrome and your PC from time to time. When using Chrome, avoid working with other intensive memory programs such as video editors, games, etc.
