Creative Outlier Air V2 Wireless Headphones Review

Creative Outlier Air V2 Wireless Headphones Review

Creative Wireless Charging Model Outlier Air V2 With High Charge, Equipped With A Touch Panel And Providing A Three-Dimensional Listening Experience, Is A Satisfactory Choice In The Range Of Mid-Priced Wireless Headphones.

If we want to see the world of fully wireless headphones called True Wireless, the two right and left airbags are paired separately with the device via Bluetooth, in the form of a spectrum on the most expensive side, the Apple iPad Pro. On the most economical side, Redmi Airbus S Xiaomi is in, then the Outlier Air V2 headphones can consider somewhere between these two limits with the $ 80 supply price, which has now reached $ 50.

The Outlier Air V2 wireless headphones are made by Singaporean Creative, which last fall replaced the original Outlier Air with the same price tag but with a few more features.

The original Outlier Air model had a relatively high purchase value due to its price, performance, and battery life; But its physical control was annoying. Although it had longer battery life and a nicer color, the improved version of the headphone, Outlier Air Gold, was still based on physical buttons and commands.

Fortunately, Creative has solved this problem in the third model of this series, and V2 is now equipped with a full touch panel and better quality microphones. The headphones also support high-quality audio codecs such as aptX and AAC, and Super X-Fi technology for a “holographic” and 3D audio experience. But is that enough to put Outlier Air V2 on the current list of high-end wireless headphones? Follow this review to answer this question.

Outlier Air V2 headphone design

Creative wireless headphones model Outlier Air V2 is sold with a combination of oil blue and black, but its attractive blue color is more visible in its relatively large charger case.

These Togoshi headphones look a bit larger than regular models and may not be suitable for small corners; But with a weight of 6 grams, it is very light on each side, and it is designed in such a way that it fits well in the ear and using it for several hours does not cause ear fatigue. The slight protrusion of the airbags from inside the ear also means that wearing a hat on them is not annoying. In addition, the Outlier Air V2 headphone box includes three additional pairs of a small, medium, and large silicone heads to fit any phone.

The Outlier Air V2 charger case is sliding and opens with pressure from the right with Super X.Fi READY written on it. Although this case is a bit narrower and more elongated than the previous model, weighing 60 grams, it still has relatively large dimensions compared to the competitors. It is certainly not as good and elegant as the AirPad Pro case.

In fact, the large size of this case may be a problem for people accustomed to putting mobile phones, keychains, and other items in their pants pockets, or their pockets are not spacious enough. Otherwise, the case can be placed in large, empty pockets, and you can walk safely.

Of course, the large size of the case has an important advantage: increasing the battery charge. The Outlier Air V2 headphones use a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, and the left side of the case has three LED lights to indicate the amount of charge remaining in the case and the charging status of both airbags.

The Outlier Air V2 wireless headphones, like the previous generation, use the IPX5 waterproof standard, which is resistant to direct spraying of light to medium volume. While the charger case should never be exposed to moisture, the headphones themselves can use safely in light rain or a high-sweat club. Water resistance and perspiration V2 make these headphones a good companion for walking, club, and travel.

The Outlier Air V2 uses the same 5.6mm graphene-coated driver found in the Outlier Gold and Outlier Air, covering the 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range. According to Creative, expensive graphene in the driver cover increases battery life and sound quality. The microphone uses Qualcomm cVc 8.0 technology, which can eliminate ambient noise up to 30 decibels and improve the quality of voice calls.

Of course, unlike many competing models, these headphones do not have active noise canceling or ANC capability; However, the airbags are positioned in the ear so that they can greatly prevent the entry of ambient noise.

The Outlier Air V2 headphones are Bluetooth 5.0 compatible and support AAC, Qualcomm aptX, and SBC codecs, which means that these headphones can support high-definition audio content.

Outlier Air V2 headphones are buttonless and based on touch commands.

One of the most obvious changes to the Outlier Air V2 compared to the previous two members of this family, Outlier Air, and Gold, is the complete removal of the buttons and their replacement with a touch panel. If you’ve experienced the previous Outlier Air model, you probably didn’t feel excellent about pushing the headphones in a little bit with each push on the panel. Fortunately, this problem is solved in V2. The touch panel receives commands issued by the user by tapping on the outer surface of the airbags and has an acceptable sensitivity to understand these shocks.

To set up the Outlier Air V2 wireless headphones, it is recommended that the charger case and airbags be fully charged before doing anything. After charging the airbags, the condition of which can be checked through the LED on the left side of the case, it is time to pair them with the device. First, remove the left airbag from the charging case so that the system automatically turns on and is paired with Bluetooth. At this point, the LED ring around the airbag starts flashing red and blue, indicating that Bluetooth pairing is activated.

The LED ring is off when using headphones to reduce battery consumption.

The next step is to turn on the device’s Bluetooth. Find Outlier Air V2 in the list and pair it with your device. Tap the left airbag name that appears in the device list to start the pairing process. A message then appears on the device to pair the right airbag. Finally, remove the right airbag from the charger case to connect to the left airbag automatically. You can see the description of the charging status of the headphones and the charger case in the image below:

As soon as the headphones are connected to the device Bluetooth, you can control the headphones with the help of touch commands.

The Outlier Air V2 does not feature single-tap touch commands

The surface of the airbags is sensitive to the touch of the hand, and for tactile commands, it needs to be hit a few times. Outlier Air V2 headphones do not have single-tap commands; Commands are either two-stroke or three-stroke. According to Creative, the reason for this decision is to reduce the occurrence of random commands.

The two-tap touch command is used to play the song as well as to answer or pause calls. Holding your finger on the touch surface of the airbags activates the volume control feature, increasing the volume on the right airbag and decreasing the volume on the left airbag. To select a song, you must use the three-tap command, which is selected on the right side of the next song and the left side of the previous song. When the song is not playing, the three-tap command activates the Siri or Google Assistant voice assistant.

List of Outlier Air V2 touch commands

In general, the Outlier Air V2’s touch commands have a logical arrangement. With a little practice, you can see the right finger pressure for the impact, the location of the impact, and the time interval between each impact. On the other hand, the headphones support Apple’s Siri voice assistant and Google Assistant, and instead of touch commands, voice commands can be used to check the weather, adjust the volume, play the next song, and much more.

Outlier Air V2 headphone sound quality

The Outlier Air V2 wireless headphones show their most accurate performance at mid-frequencies. In this general frequency range, the music and voice styles of the people fit, and fortunately, the Creative headphones perform very well in them.

The performance of the Outlier Air V2 headphones at high and low frequencies is somewhat exaggerated; For example, you may be a little annoyed when listening to high-frequency music, such as a flute or a podcast. On the other hand, the good news for music lovers is that headphones have a lot to produce low-frequency sounds like drums.

One of the weaknesses that we can add to the Creative Air V2‌ headphones is their not-so-good separation when playing complex pieces with multiple musical instruments; For example, the headphones in the middle of Radiohead’s Creep piece make the drums sound very clear, and the electric guitar sounds louder.

As long as you do not seek to make calls in crowded and noisy environments, the microphone used in Creative Air V2‌ headphones to answer calls can also satisfy you.

Battery

The performance of the Outlier Air V2 headphones is very satisfactory in terms of battery life. With each full charge, which takes about 2 hours, these headphones can last up to 12 hours, about 2 hours more than the standard model of this series but 2 hours less than the Gold model. Unfortunately, the headphones do not have fast charging capability.

In addition, the charger case itself can store up to 34 hours of charge for both airbags; In this way, after charging the headphones, they can be fully charged once again with the help of the charger case and the second to two thirds.

However, the newest model in the family, the Outlier Air V3, which is just a few weeks old, promises 10 hours of airbag battery life and 40 hours of charger case capacity.

Outlier Air V2 headphone mobile application

Unfortunately, the Outlier Air V2 headphones do not come with the app to customize their airbag capabilities and touch controls; Such an app called the Creative app is only available for Outlier Air V3, which was released this month.

However, the app available for Air V2 is only used to control Super X-Fi technology, which you can download for free from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Download SXFI for iOS

To launch the Creative Super X-Fi app for Android and iOS, you need to create an account with your email. Then, the app to set the audio holography asks you to take photos of your corners and face to create your profile. After this step, the sound settings can be activated and deactivated via the music player to detect the differences created with this technology easily.

Super X-Fi technology

The Outlier Air V2 wireless headphones, similar to the Gold model in this series, are equipped with Super X-Fi technology. According to Creative, the technology simulates a professional, multi-speaker system experience in headphones, as if sound surrounds you. By installing the SXFI application on your Android or iPhone phone, you can use its music player and change the provided equalizer settings according to your taste.

Note, however, that Super X-Fi technology is only enabled for songs stored on your device, and audio content is not supported by music streaming platforms such as Spotify and YouTube. Also, the settings are not permanently stored in the headphones and are only active as long as you are using the app.

Conclusion

Outlier Air V2 wireless headphones with an ergonomic design that fits well inside the ear, satisfactory sound quality, high charging, and the use of a touch panel with good sensitivity is high in the list of wireless headphones with a medium price tag.

The lack of a dedicated application that can customize touch commands to personal taste and convenience may interfere with getting used to the panel mechanism. On the other hand, Super X-Fi technology, which provides equalizer adjustment, only works for songs stored on the device and does not support the audio content of music streaming platforms such as Spotify and YouTube.

All in all, if you want to upgrade from the previous model of the Outlier Air family or on a medium budget, looking for fully wireless headphones with good sound quality and long battery life, you can use the Outlier Air V2 until the V3 is available in the Iranian market. Think of it as a high-end headset.
