A Comprehensive Review Of The Asus FX505DT Gaming Laptop; Experience The Games Of The Day At The Lowest Cost [Watch]

One Of The Newest Members Of This Family, Which Has Been Present In The Iranian Market For Some Time, Is The Asus FX505DT Gaming Laptop, Which Gives You A Balanced Combination Of Power And Price.

Asus TUF series laptops are in the category of economic gaming products and slightly lower than the flagship ROG series.

This laptop with Ryzen 7 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card can enter the game world with the least cost. In this article, we want to examine this laptop. You can see the specifications of this laptop below.

Specifications of Asus TUF FX505DT laptop

The specifications of this laptop seem a bit old because the 5000 series consultant processors have also been released, but in the end, what is important for us and you is the value of buying this laptop considering its efficiency. On the other hand, the date of manufacture of this device dates back to the beginning of this year, 2021, which means that this laptop with this hardware has many customers worldwide.

You can visit this reputable store to buy various digital products, including mobile phones, laptops, and game consoles. The model provided to us has 8 GB of RAM, a terabyte of hard disk, and 256 GB of SSD, which is currently sold at a price of about 24 million tomans.

Design and build quality

You should not expect a quality metal body from TUF series laptops. These products are usually made of plastic to be less expensive. The plastic used in the body of the Asus TUF FX505DT laptop is of good quality and looks even more durable than Lenovo and Acer products. The laptop is designed to be relatively simple and stylish, and the interesting thing is that the design of this series has not changed much over the years; take a look at the FX503, which was reviewed three years ago.

Let’s start with the laptop, where eight diagonal lines extend from the edges of the textured body surface of the laptop to the sleek, simple Asus logo. The same lines with sharp angles and cut edges add a little to the charm of the device. The display bezel is not very flexible, and the hinges are a bit stiff but firmly in place. Below the device, we see various textures and grooves, some of which are used to provide airflow into the laptop. Asus has chosen red for the heatsinks inside the air outlet on the back of the body, and the speaker outputs under the device so that this gaming laptop is also a sign of the dominant color of the gaming world.

The large, full keyboard of the device catches your eye when you open the display. Diagonal lines with sharp angles and a textured plastic body can also be seen on the inside of the laptop. The TUG Gaming logo occupies the right edge, and the not-so-large touchpad of the device is located at the bottom of the keyboard and slightly tilted to the left. The edges around the left and right sides of the screen are about 6 mm, the top edge is about 12 mm, and the bottom edge is about 6 cm. Now it is not clear why Asus calls this type of design NanoEdge.

The Asus TUF FX505DT uses an RGB backlit bike keyboard. The keyboard keys are well sized and spaced far enough apart. The keyboard surface sinks slightly when pressed and typing, and the keys do not give proper feedback to your fingers. The movement distance of the keys is a little longer than usual. Of course, all this can accept in an economical laptop. WASD keys have a clear cover, so you can find them more easily while playing. My biggest challenge with this keyboard is how it is designed. Asus has moved them down a bit to fit the full-size arrow keys inside the keyboard. After two weeks of use, I am still not used to these keys, and I always touch the control button instead of the directional buttons.

The keyboard backlight covers the full RGB range. To control the light intensity in three levels, you can use the fn key combination and the up and down directions. Still, you need the TUF Aura Core application or the comprehensive Armor Crate application to adjust the lighting mode. These programs give you four modes for lighting: steady, breathing, rotating and flashing. Rotation mode is the most beautiful model and displays a range of different colors.

The laptop touchpad measures 10 x 7 cm and supports Microsoft Precision drivers and multi-touch commands. The touchpad’s surface has a lot of friction, and if you want to work with it very carefully, you will encounter annoying jumps, but you will not feel any problem in normal use and fast movements. The key under the touchpad is also a bit dry and loud, but since multi-touch commands are clicked instead, you probably will never need to press the touchpad. Asus also gives you the M5 Gaming Mouse with a laptop, which with a resolution of 6200 CPU and a sampling rate of 1000 Hz, can make the gaming experience with this laptop more enjoyable.

The communication ports of the Asus TUF FX505DT gaming laptop are not very satisfactory. This laptop does not have a USB-C port and card reader, and all ports, namely two USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.1 port, HDMI output, network port, headphone/headset combination jack, and charging socket, are all located on the left edge. So if you want to use multiple ports simultaneously, you will encounter a strange situation.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity of this laptop is done through Realtek 8821CE module, which supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. During the time I used this device, I had no problem connecting to WiFi or Bluetooth devices.

Display

One of the competitive features of the Asus TUF FX505DT gaming laptop is the 144Hz display, which is also of good quality. As in the mobile world, it isn’t easy to return to the world of 60Hz monitors when working with computers with high refresh rates in the computer world. This display makes even more mouse movement and Windows animations more attractive to you.

The laptop’s 15.6-inch display with full HD resolution and a density of 141 pixels per inch will meet your needs for general use or gaming. Due to the device’s hardware, the full HD resolution is quite sufficient, and you may not even be able to use the 144Hz refresh rate in many games. According to the information obtained from HWiNFO software, the panel manufacturer of this laptop is Inolux company, and you can see the complete panel information in this link.

The display’s overall quality for a laptop in this price range is quite satisfactory, but the colors do not have the necessary freshness. The reason for this is the limited coverage of colored spaces. This display covers about 60% of the standard sRGB color space and about 40% of the large Adobe RGB color space, which is very low compared to professional laptops globally. Of course, if you’re just into gaming and public use, you probably won’t have a problem with that, as the 144Hz refresh rate is attractive enough.

The screen of this laptop, like most IPS or IPS-Level panels, has a good viewing angle, and only very sharp angles do we see a decrease in brightness and contrast. The screen’s maximum brightness is about 250 nits, enough for indoor use, but you will encounter problems in bright and outdoor areas.

Hardware and efficiency

The quad-core processors of the Ryzen 5 Model 3550H and the Ryzen 7 Model 3750H have been introduced to compete directly with the eighth and ninth-generation Intel Core i5 processors of the H series. They are not much different in terms of performance. The model we received is equipped with a Ryzen 7 3750H processor and 8 GB of RAM. Most gaming laptops have at least 16 GB of RAM, and this laptop also has a 16 GB model, but I preferred to test the 8 GB model to see if you can have a painless gaming experience with this amount of RAM.

To evaluate the power of the hardware, I first went to Crystal DiskMarket version 7 to measure the speed of the hard disk and SSD memory. The Asus TUF FX505DT uses a Seagate 1TB hard drive for storing large amounts of data and an NVMe SSD with PCIe 256GB for Kingston installation of operating systems and applications. You can see the test results in the image below.

The hard drive of this laptop has the same functionality as other types of 2.5-inch hard drives and finally reaches a speed of consecutive reading and writing of about 120 MB per second. SSD memory, however, is much faster and can read and write data at 1600 and 900 MB per second. Of course, these figures are mediocre in the world of NVMe SSDs.

To test CPU performance, I ran the Cinebench R23 app. It uses all the CPU power to render a complex and heavy image in single and multi-core modes. You can see the result of this test below.

The Ryzen 7 3750H processor scored 993 and 4361 points in the single-core and multi-core R23 chest tests, respectively. For comparison, the results for tenth-generation processor Intel Core i5-10210U laptop Mytbvk Huawei D14  respectively in 1096 and 3464 and for the eleventh-generation processor Intel Core i3-1115G4 Asus laptop Vyvvbvk 15  both 1315 and 3237 are. A more powerful processor like the Intel Core i7-10875H scores 1250 and 9758 points in this test on the GE66 gaming laptop. Therefore, the Asus TUF FX505DT laptop is a mid-range laptop for 3D rendering.

The Mark 10 PC test measures the overall hardware capability of the device for day-to-day operations, digital content production, and productivity. You can see the result below:

A total score of 4228 in this test shows that the Asus TUX FX505DT laptop can easily run general software and has a good performance in digital content production. Advanced gaming laptops in the field such as Acer Predator Helios 300  or MSI GE66.

Leaving aside these tests, we come to the exciting part of the review, which is to evaluate the performance of this laptop in the field of gaming. First, I tested the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 economic graphics card with 3DMark software. You can see the test results of this software, namely Time Spy, Fire Strike, SkyDiver, and Night Reed.

The table below compares the above results with several other gaming laptops, all of which Digital has reviewed.

According to the table above, we can see that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card is slightly better in performance than the GTX 1050Ti and slightly lower than the GTX 1060, but it is very different from the more advanced models. However, according to the results of the Fire Strike test, you can count on this laptop to run games with full HD resolution, average graphics settings, and a reasonable frame rate.

Gaming experience with Asus TUF FX505DT laptop

To experience gaming with the Asus FX505DT laptop, I chose four popular games: Fortnite, Counter-Strike Go, Metro Last Light Redux, and Gonshin Impact. You can read the results of these games below.

Fortnite
Fortnite runs on this laptop with the lowest graphics settings with a frame rate between 80 and 100, but in this case, the image quality is deficient. If you set the graphics settings to medium, the frame rate will reach 70 to 80, enough for a professional gaming experience. If the game’s visual appeal is more important to you, you can set the graphic settings to the top and play at a rate between 40 and 60 frames per second. I do not recommend the highest graphics settings, i.e., Epic mode, because the frame rate drops below 40.

Counter-Strike Go
Counter or CS: GO, one of the most popular online shooter games, runs with default graphics settings and excellent image quality at a rate of at least 80 frames per second, which is a good figure for a professional competition. Even with a little tweaking of the graphics settings, you can increase the frame rate to over 100. If you like this game, the Asus FX505DT laptop is one of the best options for you.

Metro List Light Redux
Metro List Light Redax is one of the most beautiful video games with outstanding graphic effects. This game runs with the highest settings, i.e., Very High, with a frame rate of 60 to 70, providing a pleasant experience. If you lower the graphics settings slightly, you can experience this game with a frame rate above 80.

Gorshin Impact My
wonderful and favorite game, Gonshin Impact, with its unique graphics, is one of the heaviest games right now. Of course, the frame rate of this game is limited to 60, and it is not possible to use screens with a high refresh rate. The Asus FX505DT gaming laptop can run this game with the highest graphics settings and an average frame rate of 50, but much pressure is put on the laptop hardware. If you plan to play for a long time, I suggest lowering the graphic settings by one or two steps.

cooling

The Asus TUF FX505DT gaming laptop works almost silently during normal use and only occasionally hears the fan sound for a short time. If you do not use the device heavily, it is better to set the operating profile of the laptop to Silent so that you do not hear the slightest sound of the fan. During heavy gaming or processing, the fan noise becomes a little louder and louder, but not so much as to be annoying. However, to experience uninterrupted gaming, you need the continuous and maximum performance of the cooling system, and it is better to choose the Turbo profile. I would also like to add that the cooling system performance profile is adjusted after installing the Armor Crate software by combining the fn and F5 keys.

The cooling system of this laptop works very well, and it never gets so hot that it worries you. The hottest part of the device when playing games is around the P key on the keyboard, which is usually not used by gamers and is located a long way from the widely used WASD keys. So you can have a carefree gaming experience.

Sound quality

The Asus FX505DT laptop is equipped with two 2-watt speakers located at the bottom of the device. As expected, these speakers do not have enough power to play quality sound and produce bass and can only play or watch movies in quiet environments. Of course, gamers usually prefer headphones for the gaming listening experience and have nothing to do with the quality of laptop speakers.

Battery and charger

Don’t expect a high charge from the Asus TUF FX505DT gaming laptop with a 48-watt battery, while cheap ultrabooks on the market like the Huawei Matebook D14 have a 56-watt battery. Battery testing of this laptop with PC brand software with 50% screen brightness and bright Wi-Fi did not result in better than 5 hours. If you use this device in general, that is, until the Nvidia graphics card is activated, you can count on an average of about 3-4 hours of charging. In heavy use or running the game, this figure will reduce to about 1 to 1.5 hours.

The 150-watt charger with the laptop has suitable dimensions and can charge the battery well in different conditions. According to the tests I did with this charger, you can charge up to 50% of the battery capacity in half an hour and up to 80% in one hour, even if you use the device heavily while charging. It takes about 2 hours to charge the laptop fully.

Conclusion

If you want to enter the world of video games at the lowest cost, the Asus TUF FX505DT gaming laptop is one of the best and cheapest options for you. This laptop has the basic hardware for a semi-professional gaming experience and runs most games at a reasonable frame rate. Of course, to run the games, you have to be manual and lower the graphic settings a bit. The 144Hz display is one of the main strengths of this device, which can turn professional competitions in first-person shooter games into an enjoyable experience.

The main disadvantages of this device are the plastic body, relatively low charge, and poor speakers. Also, if you want a better gaming experience, I suggest upgrading the device to 16GB.
