Dave says he often walks from his downtown office to a nearby river during lunch breaks. He was able to take incredible photos of the local wildlife at this location.

Newman says:

Walking by rivers, fields, forests, and natural places, I don’t think about anything else. The only moments that belong to me are my camera and the wildlife. Moments are spent away from the noise of people, only in peace, silence, and with the sounds of nature.

Some of these photos were not taken during the day, But all of them are part of excursions dedicated to photography.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s hot or cold, sunny or rainy; I love the outdoors and what it can bring. Wildlife gives me half an hour to breathe and recharge on stressful work days during my lunch break. It is a blessing.

Newman says that when he was younger, he bought a Nikon P900 camera, which at the time had an excellent optical zoom and could satisfy his fascination with moon photography. He soon realized that this camera was not suitable for wildlife photography.

After buying several models of Nikon cameras, he purchased a Nikon D500 and used it for two years. Dave’s latest wildlife gear and setup include a Sony A9 and Sony a7R III with Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 and Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 lenses and a Sony 1.4x teleconverter.

When asked about his memorable wildlife photography experiences, Newman said his favorite moment was when he caught a diving river kingfisher on his first try (pictured above). This is not a simple success; Other photographers, professionals, and amateurs alike have spent years and countless photographs trying to get a picture of such a speedy bird in action.
