Babar Afzal  Is A Talented Photographer Who Created The Surreal Advertising Campaign “Reflection Of Passion” For The Luxury Brand Porsche.

He has created ultra-modern images in these photos using a drone and painting with light.

Babar Afzal is a photographer and filmmaker of the Middle East’s fine arts, architecture, and landscapes. The story of this award-winning photographer’s entry into the world of photography began in 2008; When he first captured the “moderate beauty of the Margala Hills overlooking Islamabad, Pakistan” using his sister’s Cybershot camera.

His entry into advertising began a few years later, in 2010. The first better advertising job was photographing the interior and exterior of a large villa in Dubai for a local magazine.

A few years later, Porsche’s Middle East and Africa unit contacted Babar and asked him to take over the photography project for the Panamera campaign called “Passion Reflection.”

Keeping with the original theme of the campaign, Babar added several other concepts that he believed reflected Porsche’s vision. He says this:

As an artist and innovation manager, I enjoyed the freedom to use my creativity to generate ideas for this particular project.

One of the ideas that Babar was inspired by seeing Ruben Wu’s landscape pictures was the concept of painting with the light of drones. Babar explains that the general idea was to create a sense of order in the natural chaos, as well as the ability to reflect the beauty of the Porsche Panamera in the meantime. Porsche liked the idea and allowed Babur to look for suitable locations, plan the overall layout, and design the individual elements he wanted.

Porsche was delighted with this concept, but Babar faced several problems during the shooting. The original plan was to take the images in a valley near  Khor Fakkan in the United Arab Emirates and then move to the Maleeha desert according to the planned settings.

As with most advertising photography projects, things did not go according to plan; As a result, Babar and his team were forced to accept the situation. After realizing that the weekend traffic they were facing would cause time loss and long delays in the project, they had to change the schedule on the day of the shoot entirely. For this reason, the team started the photography in the desert and finished it in the valley area.

Another problem was the signal strength in the area, which caused weak GPS reception. Drones, crucial to realizing the idea of light painting, were sometimes challenged by a lack of signal and would remain stationary in the air. The darkness of the air also caused the drones’ sensors not to work correctly. Babar and the rest of the team had to be very careful when flying the drones to ensure they were at least five meters from any bumps or vehicles.

In addition to these problems, Babar’s team faced an unexpected internet connection problem halfway through the shoot, which took more than 45 minutes to resolve. Babar says about the issues:

I am glad we solved the issues during this time; we had eight setups to cover in 10 hours.

Despite these obstacles, the final result successfully presented eye-catching images and won the silver medal in the One Island Photography Competition 2020.

Looking back and his successes, Babar Afzal advises other photographers who are planning to enter this industry to free themselves from any fear that prevents them from diving into the land of the unknown or exploring their surroundings.

This way, photographers can rediscover themselves and finally distinguish themselves from others.

Do. If you can always show your potential customers unique ideas, you can convert them into actual customers. The most important thing is that it is always better to discuss the concept of work with the client before agreeing to his request and pull the hair out of our mouths so that you have better and more creative ideas to present and also instill a sense of trust and importance in the client.
