The 2020 awards ceremony was held live on Instagram and attracted the attention of many viewers from around the world. The 2020 finalist Mark Fitzpatrick said he was thrilled and honored to win Comedy Wildlife Photographer of the Year. He says:
It’s fantastic to see the reactions to Terry the Turtle’s photo. Terry made people laugh during this challenging year and helped spread a vital conservation message. I hope Terry the Tortoise can inspire more people to take a moment to think about how much incredible wildlife we have and what we can do to help. I’m sure this reward will help Teri’s anger subside so that she’ll be more cheerful the next time I see her on Lady Elliot Island.
