This creative artist creates fascinating surreal images by photographing himself, his friends, pets, places he has traveled, and objects he has come across.

Manica Carvalho has been fascinated by art and illusionism since she was young. Carvalho loved to be seduced by visual illusions and forced to look at them repeatedly. He enjoyed the world of dreams, magic shows, and watching “impossibles become possible.”

It wasn’t long before the childish mind of this magical artist was mesmerized by the magical mechanism of taking pictures. He enthusiastically took photos of the objects around him to create a collection of memories of the world.

Manika talks about how she feels about art and how her passion has evolved into its current form:

My curiosity about everyday life and familiar objects and concepts made me want to manipulate photos to create my desired changes in them. During the history of my art studies, I was introduced to the Surrealism movement, and with its help, I found a new way of “seeing.”

I quickly realized art’s possibilities for playing and inventing new and different stories. In those days, I suddenly realized that my photos alone did not satisfy me anymore. I had to get hands-on for my images to become a visual challenge. Looking for a way to combine my two passions, photography and surrealism, I found a solution called “digital collage.”

Manica Carvalho has been teaching Photoshop for almost ten years, and she is still discovering new Photoshop tricks. If you look at Manika Carvalho’s Instagram page, you will notice the progress and evolution of her skills over time. During his student days, one of Manika’s graphic designer friends introduced him to Adobe Photoshop. It is how the young artist finally found a way to merge photos with his imagination.

Creating and merging images in Photoshop and then retouching colors in Lightroom is relatively fast. Most of my photomontages take between one and two hours. Creating a digital work, coming up with new ideas, and training my eyes to see things that at first glance have nothing in common and find unusual connections are among the parts that require the most time.

It is what I mean by “making ordinary concepts seem extraordinary.”

Everyday objects are so trivial and obvious to us that we use them without thinking about them. Devices and concepts require patienceFinding new goals and forms in familiar tools and time But seeing the surprise on the faces of the audience after watching my works are worth all of this.

Although photography is sometimes tricky and can limit what I use in my photomontages, this work is inspiring and valuable for me. I love sharing the personal connection in each element of my photos.

I think it’s impossible to be creative all the time. Like all artists, there are times when my creativity gets blocked. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I can’t control when I’m bursting with ideas. I learned from experience that inspiration comes in many forms. If I don’t come up with an idea for a photo montage, I must not have come across something that stimulates my imagination.

When I was working for others in offices and companies, I was filled with feelings of burnout and thought that my creativity and existence were disappearing. Being an artist means being my boss, managing my time, and making decisions. Of course, this issue is not always good; Because I am often very hard on myself, and I still have many untraveled roads ahead of me.

Instagram is a beautiful digital community. My work aims to inspire and provide a unique perspective to see our world. Once I realized that art was a way to express myself, I started looking for the best ways to share my work with people. Manika’s advice for artists at any level is to do unique work, see the world through their own eyes, and invite people to watch it from their perspective.

Many so-called artists only copy the works of other artists. I know that I am not the only photomontage artist in the world, But I am always sure that I have presented new concepts, and I have been able to distinguish myself from the other artists in this field by using the photos I have taken. Get inspiration from other artists; I do, too, But try to keep your unique perspective on the subjects and elements.
