Jimmy Paul Scanlon (aka JPS) was born in 1997 in a coastal town not far from Bristol, England. His creativity showed itself from childhood. Taught by his father, he impressed the school teachers with his incredible drawings. After school, he went to college to study graphic design.
With the government support cut off, Jamie could no longer pay for college, so he had to drop out. Working as a shoe repairman and key cutter turned things upside down for him.
Jamie started using drugs and became addicted to crack and alcohol after killing two of his friends. In 2009, when Jamie was in a bad mood, his friend took him to a stencil art exhibition in Bristol.
It was there that Jamie realized how he had wasted his life. Jimmy started graffiti by making a stencil from a magazine cover and stolen spray paint. However, he had not yet reached a stage to face his addiction. Finally, when he became homeless and slept on the roof of an abandoned hotel, he got into the worst possible situation. On top of the hotel, he made a difficult decision to jump at the crossroads and join his two lost friends or continue his empty life. Jimmy is determined to prove that he can succeed in the art game and show that even though he grew up in poverty, he is not a loser, contrary to what he was raised to believe.
He started attending counseling and group sessions until, finally, he was able to change his life. With time and pursuit of art, Jamie improved his equipment and skills and evolved his style and technique. This artist has a unique style. His artworks can be seen in countries such as Norway, Spain, the USA, and Germany.
Art and artistic life saved me from addiction. I find no greater pleasure than painting works that the world enjoys.
Jamie says about his work:
I advise beginners to start with simple words and paint things they like and can relate to personally. Topics that the media declares interesting are only used to promote a particular brand. You should know that breaking the rules (not following trends) is always stressful. I had nothing to lose when I started. Work with John Weddell and think you have nothing to lose.
