Today Marks The First Batch Of New Features For Instagram’s Notes Feature Following Its Public Launch In December 2022.

Instagram’s Notes feature allows users to share their status with Close Friends or mutual friends on top of their inboxes.

With today’s update, the Notes feature will also support music and translation, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s post.

Previously, Notes could only contain text and emoji, but now users can share a 30-second clip of a song as another way to express their feelings. People are expected to be able to use the new music notes to share their moods, emotions, or favorite songs.

In addition to sharing a clip, users can add a title to their music notes and share their thoughts if they wish.

According to the company, music videos will be supported in all markets worldwide where Instagram has music licensing rights.

Another new feature that comes with today’s update is the translation of texts inserted into Notes. With this feature, by simply clicking on “See translation,” the note is translated from another language to the chosen language of the program.

Instagram already supports translations in other app parts, such as post descriptions, comments, and Reels, so the feature will continue to work and be available in Notes.

During Notes testing before its launch late last year, Meta said users would appreciate having a way to start conversations with friends pleasantly, and similar to Twitter’s “what’s happening” feature, Instagram’s Notes feature in the app asks users to Share your situation in the “Share a thought” section.

Users can then type a note with up to 60 characters of text or emoticons and share it with friends at the top of their inbox for 24 hours. Answers are then sent to them via DM.

Given the lack of adoption of Instagram’s Notes features among certain friend groups, the company tested text-based updates before launching its Twitter-like feature and is now actively developing it.

According to a report from the New York Times last year, Instagram is considering the Notes feature as a competitor to the feature on Twitter. But now that the feature is previewed in Instagram’s standalone, decentralized social app for company employees, the ultimate impact of the upcoming feature rollout on user adoption or the company’s investment in the less prominent features of Instagram’s Notes feature is unclear.

The new features will be rolled out across Instagram’s global base. But due to the time-consuming nature of large-scale rollout may not be visible immediately.
