Previously, SpaceX and T-Mobile had announced their cooperation to bring satellite communication to smartphones. Direct reception of satellite services on the phone with the upcoming Starlink V2 satellites will also be available on current phones, as it uses an existing frequency band. But this requires updating the codes of the Android operating system.

While the hardware of some of the current phones can establish satellite internet, it is still unclear whether it is possible to communicate with Android 13 or if they must be updated to Android 14.

At this point, it seems that the satellite communication speed that can be received on smartphones is between 2 and 4 megabits per cell area, which, although it is not a high speed, will be enough to transfer hundreds of thousands of text messages.

This satellite service not only supports text messaging and multimedia messaging (MMS) but is also supposed to support select messengers. But in this regard, an American company has successfully communicated with satellites based on a 4G network and higher speed.

According to AST SpaceMobile, 4G internet was received for the first time on a smartphone with a speed of 10.3 Mbps. The company has announced that it will also test 5G satellite internet on smartphones shortly.
