Why Are We Not Invited To Job Interviews?

If You Follow The Content Of Job Sites Or Social Media Posts Related To Employment, You Will Come To A Common Question, Why have I Not Been Invited To An Employment Interview? I Have Sent My Resume To More Than 200 Companies. Still, I Have Not Even Received A Call Or Email From The Companies. My Resume Am Full Of Personal And Professional Skills And Capabilities, But I Have Not Received Any Calls From Recruitment Experts.

These are only a part of the complaints and concerns of job seekers these days. On the other hand, some companies try to hire their needed workforce through job sites, but they always complain that there is no workforce or that the volunteers have high expectations. This article mentions the possible reasons for not being invited to a job interview.

Why are we not invited to job interviews?

** In this article, we will learn about nine lesser-known reasons why job applicants are not invited to a job interview:

1. Poor resume formatting

In 30 critical points of resume writing, we mentioned that resume writing is an art. Most people think that writing a resume is not a difficult task and there is no need to get help from others to prepare it. Today, in advanced countries, the specialty of some people is writing resumes for different industries and companies. Unfortunately, in the job market of Iran, very few job seekers are familiar with the expertise of resume writing. Become Today, many employers use applicant tracking systems (ATS).

ATS is a software system that scans resumes based on specific keywords related to job titles. However, “keywords are only part of the equation.” Dana Detrick, the owner of Brooklyn Resume Studio, says: The ATS reviews resume based on certain formatting elements, and failure to follow the guidelines may result in your resume being deemed invalid by the analysis software.

Applicants should not use tables or graphic elements with embedded text (text placed inside the image), as these may negatively affect how the software reads the resume. Kelly Donovan, director of professional services firm Kelly Donovan & Associates in Los Angeles, says, “Most job seekers overuse graphics on their resumes.

Automated systems will quickly reject a design full of different elements.

Such resumes may be of interest to the marketing department. Still, when you submit a resume to an online program, you must ensure that the software can read your resume correctly and that the hiring managers will understand it when they see it.

When writing this article, my research did in Iran; companies still use the human resources department’s traditional mechanism of studying resumes. Still, LinkedIn’s intelligent algorithms will find keywords in your resume if you use sites such as LinkedIn and your profile is entirely in English.

They find and show your profile as a recommended option to employers. Of course, both parties must use a premium account, which provides access to more advanced features, but is inaccessible; LinkedIntimes sends an email that your profile has been shown in job searches.

2. Profiles created in social networks show a bad image of you

Profiles containing uninteresting content, images, or posts create a terrible mindset in people. Sometimes hiring managers look at people’s social media profiles before deciding whether to interview them.

In the past, this action was mainly carried out by large companies whose range of business activities was wide. Still, this trend has become widespread Today, and even job seekers check the company’s profile or employees on social networks before sending resumes to companies.

Suppose you accurately updated your personal information and skills on social networks like LinkedIn. Your profile is still public in connection with networks like Facebook and Twitter, and hiring managers can view it. If you have been careful with your speech on Twitter and Facebook accounts or set your profile to private mode, you should not be particularly concerned about this.

“Job seekers should pay attention to how their profile picture portrays their personality,” says Donovan. You can be raunchy in the real world, but a not-so-interesting photo online is misleading.

In professional networks, it is better to use a well-groomed photo or, more precisely, an organizational photo that shows that you are an organized and reliable person.

And in general, it is better to control yourself in virtual networks, be careful about private content, and delete the things you think are suspicious to convey an excellent image to future employers. 3. Not paying attention to the content of advertisements

If you listen to CEOs and recruitment experts of Iranian companies, you will see that these people point out exciting points. For example, they will tell you: “My ten years of experience in the hiring process and reviewing resumes show that usually people looking for a job look at the internal descriptions of the ad and the definition of duties and specialties and the general conditions of work.

Job seekers read only the part of the ad that matches their skills and ignore the degree of expertise and skill. They don’t pay much attention and only think about sending resumes. How many years of work experience are required? It is face-to-face and full-time work.

When you open the resume, you realize that it is not structured correctly, it is full of typos, information that does not create value in the mind of the employer is included in the resume, and in general, people do not know how to convey their skills and how to look for a compatible job. It should be with their abilities; in most cases, their mentality of what is desired and non-consistent intent with their skills and knowledge.

Economic conditions have caused people to submit resumes to any job posting to find a job for a living. With the passage of time and not receiving the answer, people get frustrated and describe the companies as the cause of their failure. Unfortunately, many Iranian job seekers send resumes based on such views, and as the famous saying goes: “A stone is free, a sparrow is also free!”

4. You applied for a job out of town

Most HR expert Vicki Salemi says: “If you are looking for a job in a city other than your place of residence, you should proceed cautiously and mention in your resume that you have no problem leaving for the desired city.” If the job is in Tehran and you live in another city, the recruiter may think that the interview process will be time-consuming, so they refuse to contact you.

Fortunately, there is a simple solution: don’t put your home address on your resume. “Typically, when employers first see your resume, they don’t send an email inviting you to an interview; they make a phone call first,” says Vicki Salemi. In most cases, advance and landline numbers are the main reasons for not being invited. Therefore, it is better to include your mobile phone number and email for such job positions in your resume.

If you want to sound more professional, you should include a sentence or two in your resume that you’re relocating and can visit the company for an interview. In general, job applicants who live in a city and do not intend to leave their city are more attractive to employers.

5. The existence of a possible intra-organizational or corporate option

Sometimes, circumstances are beyond your control and prevent you from being invited to a job interview. “One of the biggest reasons why perfectly qualified candidates are overlooked for interviews is internal issues,” Levy-Ditrick says. Some companies prefer that a job position be advertised internally for some time before it is published publicly.

For this reason, internal candidates have a higher advantage in terms of timing and visibility than people who will enter the company. There is also a possibility that an employer considers a possible internal option but publishes a job advertisement to be sure and to perform a series of legal procedures that show that he has followed the rules. Of course, this issue applies mainly to antigovernment offices and companies.

6. Financial problems or changing needs of the employer

Sometimes, not being invited to an interview session is related to company problems. For example, the budget for hiring new people is eliminated, or the communication channels that the company uses are suddenly cut off.

For example, the company was using a service that is now unavailable, filtered, or expired the service’s validity date. Unfortunately, most employers and companies do not contact job seekers in such situations to let them know what the story is.

Sometimes, the needs of employers change after posting job ads for various reasons, such as the merging of work teams, which causes the removal of job positions. What should we do in this situation? If you applied for a job but didn’t hear back, contact HR or the recruiter two weeks after submitting your resume to follow up on the situation and mention that you’re interested in the position.

7. Inadequacy of skills and records

Most hiring managers are looking for people with experience and skills that match the job. Sometimes individual skill levels conflict with organizational needs. Short (period) or lack (limited presence in a company or project) of work history or lack of familiarity with the skills required by employers can be another reason for not being invited to an interview.

Short-term job records in different positions and constant transfers from one company to another create the mentality that the applicant does not have the necessary qualifications.

8. Negative result of inquiries and investigations

After the initial interview, most hiring managers contact the previous company or organization or even the references specified in the resume and ask for their opinion. Negative or disapproving comments make recruiters suspicious of an applicant’s qualifications.

9. Ask for help getting hired

Job hunting becomes challenging if you don’t have the right strategy. In such a situation, it is better to use alternative options. For example, most job sites offer opportunities to make people and resumes more visible. Some of them allow job seekers to upload up to five copies of their resumes, each tailored to the desired job. Recruiters daily review profiles of job seekers on job sites to find qualified candidates.

In addition, you can join job sites and activate the site’s notification option so that you will be notified quickly in your inbox or smartphone whenever a new job ad is published.
