What are the seven ICDL computer skills?

The term ICDL stands for International Computer Driving Licence, meaning the international course of computer use by which users’ computer skills are confirmed.

The ICDL course pursues four main objectives, which are:

In other words, the ICDL certificate is a basic computer work certificate issued by the ICDL Institute in Ireland.

This international institution has been operating for nearly ten years and during that period it was able to receive the global computer certificate approved by the European Union.

ICDL digital student modules

ICDL Digital Citizen modules

the ICDL Digital Citizen is for those without a computer or internet experience. ICDL Digital Citizen also helps people overcome the fear of using computers for complete beginners by using a simple, non-threatening approach to teaching introductory computer, email, and internet skills.

An ICDL Tech (MQF Level 3)

ICDL Tech targets students interested in computing, engineering, and science careers. In addition to modules covering the essential digital skills required for the modern workplace, ICDL Tech includes modules to support the development of programming/coding skills.

ICDL Tech tests practical skills and competencies and consists of seven (7) separate modules covering computer theory and practice. To achieve the ICDL Tech certification, a candidate must pass an exam in seven (7) modules.

ICDL Tech consists of 5 compulsory modules and two optional modules. These ICDL Tech modules are:

Mandatory modules
Computers and online supplies
Documents (former hardware processor)
Spreadsheets
Use of databases
Principles of coding or robotics
and optional modules (choose both items)
Principles of coding or robotics
Cyber security (former IT security)
Information literacy
Image editing
Remote work

5 mandatory modules + 2 optional modules = ICDL TECH certificate
ICDL Technology Certification

The ICDL Tech certificate is award to candidates who complete all five (5) compulsory modules and all two (2) elective modules.

The ICDL Tech certificate is comparable to the Malta Qualifications Framework level three (3).

ICDL certificates are not issued immediately by the test center. ICDL Malta gives the certificate and transfers it to the test center where the last test was held. Candidates get the certificate from the test center where they had appeared for their previous examination. The cost of issuing the first ICDL certificate is included in the price of the ICDL registration number.

ICDL Americas is a subsidiary of ICDL Foundation, the not-for-profit certifying authority of ICDL. Established to guide the implementation of the ICDL standards in the Americas context, ICDL Americas manages the accreditation of a growing network of ICDL Accredited Test Centres (ATCs) and provides a focal point for the formation of partnerships with organizations who share our national economic development and capacity building goals.
