Winners Of The 2021 World Landscape Photographer Contest

There were six winners in the 2021 World Landscape Photographer of the Year competition, with  Felix Sproul taking the overall winner with his image titled ‘Atlantic Winter Storm Reaches Ireland.’

The World Landscape Photographers Competition was founded in 2020 by a landscape photographer named Nigel Danson. Danson says:

This contest aims to raise as much money as possible for charity while bringing together the best nature photographers worldwide in one game.

This competition was initially supposed to be held only once in 2020. Still, due to the success of the inaugural year, Danson decided to do it again and make a more significant impact by donating the money raised from the race to environmental causes.

More than 1,400 photographers participated in the 2021 World Landscape Photographer Competition. A total of 6512 images were submitted for judging. After all the work was done, only six shots and the overall winning image received the award.

I had visited the rough seas of this area of the west coast of Ireland several times. With a sea of chaos that is constantly changing, it was tough to choose a subject or composition. I was last here after a big storm; But the waves didn’t look as big and scary as I wanted; So when another big winter storm rolled in, I returned to the area and got what I wanted, even though it was windy and cold and the water splashing around prevented me from seeing properly.

As the wind whipped the waves onto the beach, I enjoyed feeling the force of nature and not worrying too much about the photos. When I was searching the beach, I finally came across this scene. The actual size of the waves can be seen against the rocks.

The height of some of these waves was even higher than the rocks, and the collision with the successive waves sent them even higher.

The perfect spring conditions in the Chiltern Hills’ ancient beech forest can be an ethereal experience. Earlier in the year, I first came across this small and intimate scene and was drawn to the gnarled trunks of the beech trees.

I was very anxious to see this sight again in the spring. This image immediately attracted the eyes due to its visual beauty. The beautiful green color of the young beech leaves and the attractive fronds of the bluebell, all shrouded in a thin layer of mist, were worth the patience.

Bluebell is a popular plant among photographers, But it is rare to see a photo that uses them with such elegance. The main composition of the image on the shower is fresh forest greens. Seeing the blue color of the bluebells in the corners of the picture is magical. There are many images of forest scenery, But this combination is pleasant and complete.

The Lacher River is on the northern side of the Gore Peninsula in South Wales, at low tide after sunset. The sky is reflected in the still waters of the river channels as the tides change.

I love the shimmery tones and pastel beauty of this image. The dreamy composition and colors of this scene quickly attract the audience.

Frozen sea water drops splash on Funen Island fishing poles in the Danish archipelago. Funen means where the wind blows. This name seems very appropriate when the current cuts the skin on this cold morning.

In this Finnish autumn, it snowed all night. The following day, the landscape was transformed into a vast white canvas with many green and yellow brushstrokes. Above this serene landscape, flocks of migrating birds could fly to southern Europe.

This image was recorded in Yellowstone National Park on a February morning at minus 20 degrees Celsius. At first, the morning fog covered everything; But gradually, as the mist faded, this minimalistic scene became visible.
