Methods to solve the problem of messing up and changing the time and date of Windows
1- Update your Windows
The old version of Windows is one of the reasons for messing up the date and time of the computer. Follow the steps below to check for new its updates:
- Go to Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart your computer.
Now check the Windows time and date and see if it is fixed.
2- Identify existing malware
If malware is installed on your Windows, your Windows clock will not show the correct time. By scanning the computer, you can identify and remove existing malware. If you don’t have suitable antivirus software for this, it’s time to get down to business and install a robust antivirus. Then scan your computer and then restart it.
3- Check the Windows Time service
In the Windows operating system, the Network Time Protocol (NTP) displays the exact time. This protocol synchronizes your system clock time with other computer servers when you connect to the Internet. If this synchronization is not configured correctly, your Windows clock will display incorrectly.
To check the Windows Time service, follow the steps below:
- Press Windows + R to open the Run command window.
- Enter services. MSc in this window.
- Select Windows time.
- Right-click on Windows time.
- Select Properties.
- Check that the Startup type option must be set to Automatic.
- Check the service status. If it is running, click Stop and then click Start. If the group is Stopped, click on Start.
- Finally, click Apply and Ok.
4- Synchronize the computer manually
Windows synchronizes its time with the Internet time server. The Windows clock time may also be messed up when the network connection is lost. Fortunately, this synchronization can be manually adjusted.
Follow the steps below to change the Time Server:
- Open Control Panel. If you can’t find it, go to the search bar and type: Control Panel.
- Select Clock and Region.
- Click on Date and Time.
- In the Date and Time window, click Internet Time.
- Click on Change settings…
- Check the Synchronize with an internet time server box.
- Select time.nist.gov from the drop-down menu.
- Click on Update now and then on Ok.
5- Change the time zone
The time zone is responsible for synchronizing your computer’s time with the Internet time server. If you have not selected the correct time zone, the time and date of Windows will be displayed incorrectly.
Follow the steps below to change the region:
- Click on Start.
- Open Settings.
- Select Time and Language.
- Go to Date and Time.
- If the Set time zone automatically option is on, turn it off.
- From the Time Zone drop-down menu, set the time zone according to your location.
6- Update the BIOS

7- Replace the CMOS battery
SIMOS chip is where all BIOS values, including date and time, are stored. The CMOS battery provides the energy of this chip, so even when your computer is turned off and not connected to the power supply, the CMOS chip remains active.
Deterioration of the Simos battery causes the loss of information on this chip. One of the signs of failure of this battery is displaying the wrong date and time in Windows.
