Google Has Introduced A Tool Called Results About You, Which Can Be Used To Request Registration In An Easier Way Than Before To Remove Search Results That Contain Personal Data.
Google’s Results about you tool is intended to simplify removing search results containing personal information and is currently available to some users. This feature was first introduced at the I/O 2022 conference.
Google previously offered a way to delete users’ personal information, such as email addresses or phone numbers, and a host of other data types.
However, the company’s previous system was not so simple, and many people could not easily use it. If you come across items in Google search results that show data related to you, you should go to the support page and fill out a form containing the URL you want to be removed from the search results.
With the new Google tool, you can directly request to remove the desired data from Google search results. If you see a result that links to your data page, you can tap on the three dots next to it to access the “About this Result” panel, select the “Delete Result” option, and submit a request to delete that result.
There is also a page called Results About You that you can access by tapping on your profile picture in the Google app. This section lets you track your data deletion request and view its status.
According to The Verge, you can also file a new request from this page to remove your desired search results that contain outdated or illegal information. As Google points out in its support document, this process only removes the referenced effects.
Earlier this year, Google updated its policies on deleting the information it collects from users. The old rules allowed you to remove personal contact information from Google search results. This change was quite complex, and you can find more details about it here.
Google’s new tool doesn’t change the actual process; it just provides an easier way to request the removal of results.
