Apple has intensified its plans in the field of artificial intelligence development by creating a new division called “Foundational Models”. Apple’s new team to develop artificial intelligence
While companies like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft have launched their AI models so far, Apple has been largely silent. In a new report, it has been said that the iPhone maker is working on several artificial intelligence models and investing millions of dollars daily to train them.
According to the Information report , Apple now has a new division called “Foundational Models” that works on conversational artificial intelligence. About 16 employees work in this department, including some former Google engineers. Apple’s head of artificial intelligence, John Gianandrea, who was hired in 2018 to help improve Siri, manages the department.

Other Apple teams are also working on artificial intelligence. According to the report, a visual intelligence unit is developing an image generator model, and another group is researching “multimodal artificial intelligence” that can recognize and generate images or video as well as text.
Apple’s AI models can serve different purposes. For example, a chatbot is being developed by the Cupertino giant that can interact with customers using AppleCare. Another model is being built to simplify the process of communicating with Siri.
Information insider sources have also stated that Apple’s most advanced Large Language Model (LLM), known internally as Ajax GPT, has been trained on more than 200 billion parameters and is based on GPT-3.5, which was the basis for the initial version of the chatbot. ChatGPT is more powerful.
Last month, Bloomberg said in a report that the model was built for internal use and that the iPhone maker has no serious plans to release the technology at the moment.
