Using its Malcore software, Internet 2.0 gave each app a score based on the amount of personal information collected. TikTok scored 63.1, higher than Facebook’s rival VK, a Russian networking site.

After TikTok, VK scored 62.7 as Russia’s second largest internet company, with 13 bots and 28 “dangerous licenses” revealed in its source code.

The third most tracked application is Viber Messenger, which has more than a billion users and was found to have 11 trackers.

The Microsoft Teams application for group work calls had about four trackers and many permission requests, which received a score of 38 and ranked fourth in this list.

With about 400 million users worldwide, email service Outlook came in fifth with 35.9 and 7 followers, followed by Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and LinkedIn, which scored around 34. Gmail and WeChat are also at the end of this list.

The study’s findings come amid a security controversy over how social media companies use data collected.
