Socotra’s long-term isolation, extreme heat and drought, seasonal monsoons from May to September, and special weather conditions in the mountainous regions have created a unique flora and fauna on the island.

F, Alien species, climate change, and human impact are the main threats to the nature of Socotra. For these reasons, Socotra is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The islands of Socotra are a closed ecosystem, so they have unique animal and plant species. Nearly one-third of the living things on these islands are found only there.

The symbol of Socotra is the dragon’s blood tree (Dracaena cinnabari), which resembles a giant mushroom or umbrella. Red sap begins to flow from the bark of this tree when it is cut, solidifying quickly.

Since ancient times, residents have used the obtained red gum for medical, veterinary, and cosmetic purposes.
