By Recording Images Of Powerful Ocean Waves, Ray Collins Is Trying To Increase People’s Awareness About The Precious Element Of Water And Better Care Of The Seas.

For nearly a decade, Ray Collins has been an Australian photographer who has dedicated his art to documenting the ocean. A specialist in wave photography, Collins’ images highlight the ocean’s power, grace, and majesty.

His ongoing quest to showcase the art of waves is evident in a new series of images shot in Hawaii, Portugal, and Australia.

Collins flew in a helicopter, walked along reefs, and swam with his camera to capture these dynamic images. His extraordinary ability to capture these images makes them appear as if he put little effort into them.

Attention to detail is essential in this artist’s work, and one must carefully examine the light and shape of each wave before pressing the shutter.

Collins says:

Water can manifest itself in many ways. I like to convey a sense of anticipation with my work. The image asks the viewer to imagine what is happening. Clearly, without light, there is no photo, just a black rectangle.

Through his work, Collins asks viewers to reevaluate their appreciation of water. Although this element is something we should not take for granted, many do not appreciate it. Collins’s wave photography highlights water’s color, shape, and power in a way that elevates it to fine art. He hopes that people will invest more in preserving this vital part of the planet.

My goal is to show the ocean as a living thing. I record it in all its frightening strengths to raise awareness of the fragility of tranquility.

My worst nightmare is seeing the sea turned into a giant floating garbage dump and our descendants unable to appreciate the beauty we often take for granted. By photographing ocean waves, I hope the viewer will inspire to prioritize the value of nature over the convenience and practicality of using single-use plastics so that we can keep the oceans as alive and pristine as possible for future generations.
