Increase disk space in Windows 10
One of the scariest problems we can all face is low space on the hard drive and system space of our computers. Over time, video files and images get their hands on higher quality, and, of course, with this, their volume increases.
If you are accustomed to archiving your videos and photos and to some extent your articles, this post can be of great help to you in shortening and summarizing your files, to give you more space.
Hard drives and storage spaces are increasing in capacity day by day, but we still have a problem filling them up, if you use SSDs, this is more tangible for you, cuz SSDs have less capacity than HDDs.If you are having trouble with the available space on your hard drive, this can help you get more free space without deleting personal files or software on your system.
Run Disk Cleanup
One of the most widely used tools in Windows 10 by default is the Disk Cleanup feature, which removes all temporary files stored on drives that have virtually no use for users, as well as programs that are not used in your operating system.
To access this program, just search for Disk Cleanup in the Start menu.
To manually lighten one of your drives, right-click on the driver you want and select Properties. In the window that opens in front of you, click on the General tab, and in the Capacity, section Click on Disk Cleanup.
In this section, select the files you want to delete and click OK. This section also includes Temporary files, log files, and files that are in your bin, Also you can delete the files that are not displayed to you, click on the Cleanup System file.
After doing this, you can delete the recovered files by clicking on the More Options tab and pressing the Cleanup button in the System Restore and Shadow Copies section. This process will delete all the recent files that you used to restore them. So make sure that the current state of your operating system is completely stable because by deleting the recovery files you will no longer be able to restore it to previous versions of your system.
Remove heavy programs
Uninstalling programs can help increase the amount of free space on your system, but sometimes a lot of software and programs use very little space, so it is better to look for programs that get much more space than other programs. If they’re not necessary, we delete them.
To do this, go to Control Panel> Programs> Programs and Features, on this page you can see the tabs Organize, Uninstall, Change, under these three sections you can see the category of programs installed on your system, click on the size to display your programs based on the volume occupied by your system, now you can see the largest of them and delete what you don’t want.
Remember that not all installed programs always write the amount of space they take up on your computer, sometimes it may take up a lot of space, but in the program size column, no value is shown to the user.
Also in Windows 10 you can go to System> Apps and features, in this section all the programs and software and games that are installed on your computer will be displayed, you can also delete them from this section, The section allows you to delete applications stored on your system and also apps and games that are downloaded by Microsoft Store.
Delete Temporary Files
The Disk Clean up tool is very useful, but it does not delete temporary files used by other programs, for example, the default Windows 10 Disk Cleanup never removes Google Chrome or Firefox browser cache, which in most cases these files can take up a lot of space. Browser cache is saved to take less time while surfing the Internet, it stores files and previous information in your system, only to load them on the browser screen the next time.
To get the best results from this part, it is better to use CCleaner software, this software will clear the unused space occupied by the programs, and the cache of all browsers and third-party software will delete.
Duplicate files
These are files, photos, or videos or information on your system that have been accidentally or by a malware or virus created on your system, a copy of themselves, for founding them, if the files that you’re looking for, aren’t too big, you can start checking your drives one by one.
But if you have a large number of files, you can do things faster using Duplicate Finder software.
Get free space with CMD
One of the best ways to get more free space is to use CMD commands. You can use the following command to compress your operating system files, but you should be aware of this if Your system is weak, avoid doing this as much as possible, cuz it a heavier process for the windows to boot up when the files are in compress mode.
Type the following command in CMD to compress:
Compact.exe /CompactOS:always
Then hit enter and wait for the compression process to complete.
