How to Hide the News Widgets in Windows 10 and 11

One of the features of the Windows 10 and 11 operating systems is news widgets that can be seen in the corner of the taskbar. Some days are full of good news and some days are full of bad news. Sometimes people don’t want to follow the bad news and maybe they want to hide this part in their Windows 10 and 11 operating systems.

In this article, we are going to explain how to hide this section in the mentioned operating system.
How to hide widgets in Windows 10

The easiest thing to do is to disable the widget area entirely. In Windows 11, you can do this by right-clicking on the taskbar and then selecting Taskbar Settings. In this section, you can disable widgets.

In the Windows 10 operating system, you must right-click on the taskbar, then click on News and interests > Turn off. Now that the widget bar is disabled, you need a new way to see the current temperature at a glance. We recommend Weather Bar, an open-source program that sits on the system taskbar.

You will notice a few things in this screenshot. First, the app shows the current temperature as an icon, but instead you can see an icon that shows the current conditions.

WeatherBar is the best icon-friendly weather app we’ve found for Windows, but if that’s not your thing, try WeatherMate. The app was released in 2005 and has a very small volume.

Hiding news in Microsoft Edge operating system Windows 10

Disturbing news content is also shown on the new tab page of Microsoft Edge. You can mostly hide it by clicking the arrow next to the word Visible Content and then clicking Headings Only. These obscure the headlines unless you scroll down.

Alternatively, you can install Momentum, which replaces the new tab screen in Edge with a beautiful image, a clock, and an inspirational quote. If that’s not enough for you, you can replace Edge with Chrome or Firefox.

How to block threads in Windows 10 operating system

We’ll be honest: we started to believe we could find a way to disable news without disabling widgets. Our first attempt was to open the Manage Interests button, which opens the Settings page on your browser’s MSN.com.

The problem is that blocking threads doesn’t work. When we refresh the page, everything we blocked will be unblocked again. Alas, sometimes Microsoft wants to show not-so-interesting news.

This whole widget is a big mess, and we can’t believe that one of the most valuable companies on earth not only created it on purpose, but put it on the Windows taskbar, which can be annoying.
