Have you accidentally encountered an Access Is Denied error in a Windows Server Remote Desktop session? In this tutorial, we have discussed three of the most effective solutions to fix this error. Remember to apply these in the order given if the problem persists.
Method 1: Log in to the Administrator account
Most of the time, if you get the Access Is Denied error in Remote Desktop Windows Server 2022, you might not have root administrator privileges. In other words, to solve this problem, you must log in using an admin account. In most cases, running Remote Desktop with an administrator account will fix the error. So, make sure you follow this method before trying other techniques.
Second method: Add the domain group to the Remote Desktop user group
Adding the domain group to the Remote Desktop Users group will do the trick in most cases. We do this using Windows Server 2022 Group Policy. This method is a little long. So, be sure to follow it carefully.
- Go to Server Manager through the Windows Start menu.
- Find and select Group Policy Management on the Tools tab.
- In the following window, you can see the current forest of the domain. Right-click on the domain and select “Create a GPO in this domain and link it here.”
- You will see a prompt to create a Group Policy Object (GPO). Name it ‘Restricted Groups’ and click OK to continue. You can see it in the domain structure.
- Link the created GPO to the terminal server organizational unit.
- Now right-click on the GPO and click Edit.
- Enter the following code in the Group Policy Object Editor:
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Restricted Groups\
8. Then right-click the Restricted Groups GPO and click Add Group.
9. In the Add Group window, click Browse and select the Locations option.
10. In the ‘Enter the object names to select a section, add the Remote Desktop Users’ group.
11. Now click on the Check Names option. You can also click the Advanced button and then tap Find Now.
12. From the list on the screen, find and select the Remote Desktop Users group, and then click OK.
13. Save all changes and close the Add Groups window.
14. Then, open the Remote Desktop Users properties and select the members of this group. Then click on Add and Browse.
15.Now, enter the name of the domain group in the Select Users or Groups window.
16. Select Check Names and then click OK.
17. Finally, save the changes. You have successfully added the domain group to the Remote Desktop Users group.
The third method to fix the Access Is Denied error is: Log in to the Administrator account.
If none of the above two solutions work to fix the Access Is Denied error, another option is to troubleshoot and reset Windows Server 2022.
- Go to the start menu and restart your system by holding the shift + enter key.
- Click Troubleshoot and then click Reset this PC.
- Follow the instructions to reset your system successfully and fix the “Access Is Denied” error in Windows Server 2022.
