How to Change Screen Timeout Setting in Windows 10 and 11?

If you have a Windows 10 or 11 computer and want to change the screen shutdown time, then this article will be helpful for you.

If your computer screen is on for an extended period, then it will waste electricity, and in laptops, it will drain the battery sooner. Therefore, Windows 10 and 11, like most operating systems today, automatically turn off your screen if you do not use the device.

This work, done to save electricity consumption and not waste energy, is naturally not very smart and sometimes annoys users. But fortunately, you can easily change the screen shutdown time in your Windows 10 and 11.

In the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system, i.e., Windows 10 or 11, you can set how long your display should turn off when connected to power and when using the battery. Of course, if you use a desktop computer, you won’t see the battery power option.

The following will examine how to change the automatic screen shutdown time in Windows 10 and 11. The working process in both windows is almost the same and differs only in details.

  2. Next, you must select the System option in the settings window.
  3. Then you have to select Power & Sleep in the sidebar.
  4. If you’re using a desktop computer, you’ll only see a “When Plugged In” drop-down menu under the Screen and Sleep sections. If you are using a laptop or tablet, you can also see the “On Battery Power” drop-down menu.
  5. Select the drop-down menu under the Screen section to change the screen off time.
  6. Now you have to choose one of the options to determine how long the screen will be on (minute means “minute,” hour means “hour,” and never means “never”).
  7. If you have two “On Battery Power” and “When Plugged In” sections, you must repeat the above process for both. That’s all you need to do in this area.

In Windows 11, to change the screen shutdown time, follow the steps below:
