Historical Figures Simulated In A Modern Way With The Help Of Artificial Intelligence

Heatherly Diao Is An Enthusiastic Artist Who Decided To Use Modern Simulations Of Historical Figures To Show That These People Were Ordinary People Like All Of Us.

Because of the high social status of celebrities, we often forget that they are ordinary people just like the rest of us.

The same applies even more to famous historical figures. Since we can only see them through the works of great artists, this artistic genius always makes these characters look like the demigods of ancient times.

Just like famous people, we have to believe that historical figures were ordinary people despite their outstanding achievements and the stories told about them.

For this reason, Heatherly Diao is an artist who took a new look at historical figures and tried to imagine them as if they lived in modern times.

One of the advantages of the modern era is that people’s fashion and style do not show their social status as much as in the past, making everyone look equal like you and me.

Diao says about his source of inspiration:

Seeing the work of photographer and digital artist Bas Uterwijk led me to create this collection. He is a master at what he does, But I tried to learn more from him. I’m so glad I was able to get positive feedback from him! Nathan Shipley’s works have also influenced me a lot.

When choosing a character, the most time-consuming task is to find an image that resembles the historical figure. I spend many hours in image databases to get the right photo. Seeing each piece takes up to two hours, which is nothing compared to unaided AI methods.

Diao adds:

I believe they are people born to shine. No matter how normal AI makes them seem, we will never forget how these people made a name for themselves in history. I love my paintings of George Washington, Vincent Van Gogh, and Napoleon Bonaparte because I think they are so well done that they have souls. My Instagram followers also upvoted these pictures, so I’m glad I was right.

Diao is currently preparing the third part of his collection. In this series, he plans to use artificial intelligence to see what they would look like today if famous people who died too soon had survived.

None of these works would be possible without artificial intelligence, or at least it would take a very long time. I used software called Artbreeder, a widely used platform for generative AI art, and FaceApp to complete them.
