Eerie Images Of The Yellow-Clad Couple In Abandoned Buildings

A Mysterious Couple Known As The ‘Yellow Jackets’ Have Been Mesmerizing Viewers With Their Eerie, Unmarked Self-Portraits In Abandoned Locations.

Urban exploration or urbex refers to the exploration of artificial structures, usually abandoned ruins or hidden components of the artificial environment.

When it comes to over-box photography, creating a distinction and an effect that stands out from other images in this field is not an easy task. Still, two young artists with their yellow raincoats have managed to find a way to create lasting works in this type of photography.

With a unique vision and performance, this yellow-clad couple travels to abandoned places and creates images that look like thrillers or horror movie posters.

Ivy and Aton are two mysterious Portuguese artists interested in photography and exploring abandoned places before meeting each other. This common interest brought the two closer together and created the concept of yellow jackets.

When Ivy and Anton started wearing the yellow jacket that belonged to Atton’s father as their trademark “Yellow Jackets” in their photos, they noticed the interesting contrast it made with the background of the abandoned places. The cheerful and remarkable color of the coat was gorgeous and pleasant against the dark, sad, and soulless background of the lonely places. Yellow color gives new life to these abandoned places.

Yellowjackets say:

Because the color yellow evokes light (the essence of photography) for humans and is joyful in itself, for us, it represents overcoming difficulties, a sense of happiness and success to enter dangerous places; Places where we don’t know what awaits most people and us will never have the chance to see and access them in their lifetime.

At this time, the Yellow Jackets felt their photos were somehow incomplete. For this reason, they thought of adding another yellow coat to the photography scenes; In this way, they could appear together in the pictures. They found a yellow jacket similar to Aton’s father’s skin, which was not in good condition, But after restoration and repair, it became a good coat for these two artists.

The Yellow Jackets project involves many photos in various locations, and finding these locations is the most time-consuming aspect of the job. According to Ivey and Aton, researching these locations takes hours, sometimes longer than the time of photography. Yellow Jackets spend most of their time browsing Google Maps, reading the news, and looking for exciting sources in old books to find locations.

These buildings are everywhere; It is enough to pay more attention.

We have already found abandoned villages in remote areas and deserted palaces, hospitals, and shopping malls in major urban centers.

There’s a sense of continuity in all these images that isn’t just due to their signature yellow jackets; But over time, the style of Yellow Jackets has changed and developed. The couple’s personal feelings and what the location inspires influence the final image.

Yellowjackets say:

We are always full of ideas and like to share topics that we think are relevant, But mainly, we try to create new images and concepts based on what we feel and understand.

For Yellow Jackets, what the audience feels after seeing these images is essential. Evie and Aton want people to receive a piece of their ideas according to their understanding and needs, Whether it’s the belief in love and friendship or the courage to go out and explore more or challenge themselves in new subjects.

The project aims to share the unique beauty of abandoned and forgotten places and draw attention to preserving the built heritage. The Yellow Jackets also want to exhibit their work in worldwide galleries to travel more and get to know the most unusual abandoned places.

A world is waiting for us to explore. Places that seem to jump out of our imaginations make us travel into them and ourselves.
