Geo Leon is a talented Los Angeles-based photographer who has earned over 300,000 followers on Instagram by posting stunning results and behind-the-scenes photos. He shows that in photography, the role of creativity is much more critical than decorative devices.

In the following, you can see and read Leon’s latest works and an interview with him.

Leon has been engaged in photography for more than ten years. He says:

It all started in 2011 when I was on a competitive martial arts team. The mother of one of my teammates was a photojournalist who worked for a Kansas City newspaper. He photographed all the teams in the matches. I was very fascinated by his work. He advised me to try photography. My wife gave me a camera, and the rest of the story is.

Leon said that he always starts with a mood board when asked about his creative process.

I need the inspiration to spark a concept in my mind. As soon as I find the idea, I go for models that fit it. Then we plan the location, time, clothes, and props needed to bring an idea to life!

He adds:

My shoots usually last between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the concepts and execution. Most of the time, my friend Chris or my wife helps me. Editing and retouching each photo can take between one and three hours.

Geo says that today many manufacturers are trying to copy each other’s style.

Every artist has to create a unique style to stand out from others. Due to the abundance of talent in any field, this isn’t easy to do.

His advice to young creators is to shoot as much as they can.

There is so much information out there today that I wish I had known when I started my career! Shoot, research, and find the photography that inspires you! Ask as many questions as you can. Take a photo of a friend or family member to start, and get ideas to improve your work after each shot.

This photographer artist says about facing a mental block that is an obstacle to creativity:

Sometimes I create so much that I can’t continue. Just like any other artist, I always find different ways to re-inspire. Watching movies, playing video games, or looking at digital art on the internet can be a way to get inspired. Having friends who motivate and inspire you in your career is lovely.
