Microsoft Plans To End Its Support For Cortana In Windows At The End Of This Year, Because With The Development Of Powerful Artificial Intelligence Tools, This Windows Voice Assistant Will Probably No Longer Be Useful.

Microsoft has announced in a support page seen by XDA Developers and Windows Central that it will no longer support Cortana as a standalone program in Windows at the end of this year.

The discontinuation of support for the Windows voice assistant is not unexpected. Microsoft introduced its new Windows Copilot tool during the Build conference in May. This tool sits on your taskbar and uses artificial intelligence to help you do everything and more that Cortana does, including summarizing content, paraphrasing text, asking questions, adjusting computer settings, and more. Etc.

Microsoft first added Cortana to Windows 10 in 2015. You can set reminders, open apps, and ask questions using voice commands. But over the years, Microsoft has gradually removed Cortana from the Windows experience.

With the release of Windows 11, Cortana’s digital assistant was removed from its prominent position on the user’s taskbar and was no longer present in the initial Windows startup experience. Microsoft also shut down the Cortana app on iOS and Android in 2020, ending support for Cortana on Surface headphones and other devices.

It is still unclear when precisely Microsoft will remove Cortana from Windows. Still, it’s clear that Microsoft’s growing suite of artificial intelligence tools, which include the Bing chatbot and Microsoft 365 Copilot, is a priority.

Although Cortana is being removed from Windows, Microsoft has announced that it will still be available in Outlook mobile, Microsoft Teams mobile, Teams display, and Teams rooms. However, we do not know how long this support will last.
