Server vs Desktop

You can just find a few differences between server and desktop versions. Both server and desktop versions of Ubuntu use the same apt repositories. This makes it easy to install the server edition on the desktop as it is on the server edition. The difference between these editions is that the desktop edition has an X windows environment that the server edition doesn’t. In the Ubuntu version, 10.10 and prior server and desktop editions had different Kernels. But in the next editions in order to simplify the maintenance of the operating system the Kernels merged.

Installation

Ubuntu server edition installation is as simple as installing other operating systems. But in the server edition installation, there is no graphical environment to install the operating system. instead, there is a console that you can use to install Ubuntu.   1. First, you need an ISO file. you can find it from the Ubuntu website.
  2. Boot the system from for example a flash drive containing the ISO file.
  3. Then, you will be asked to select a language.
