A Photograph Of A Pensive Silverback Gorilla Has Won The 2022 Benjamin Mkapa African Wildlife Photography Awards.
The Benjamin Mkapa African Wildlife Photography Awards, organized by the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and Nature’s Best Photography, started last year in 2021. The award is named after the former president of Tanzania, who dedicated resources to environmental education in Africa.
American photographer Michelle Kranz took first place in this year’s event after capturing a fantastic photo of a gorilla with her Nikon D850 camera in Rwanda.
Other winners include Anthony Ochieng Onyango, who used his Canon R camera to capture touching moments at the elephant sanctuary.
The organizers want to show African animals and nature differently and more positively through the photography competition of Benjamin Mkapa. This event is more than photography and an educational program.
Onyango says about this photo:
Mary Longs is one of the dedicated carers of orphaned and rescued elephants at the Retti Sanctuary. Elephants show their affection by touching and caressing their trunks.
