Microsoft Edge Browser Is Equipped With VPN

The Microsoft Edge Browser Is Supposed To Be Equipped With A Feature Called Secure Network, Which Is Essentially Similar To A VPN.

Microsoft Edge Browser,  Opera browser, has long provided free VPN to its users.

Microsoft is testing a VPN-like service for Edge to make the browsing experience more secure with the browser and better protect user privacy.

A new page on the Microsoft Support Website mentions Microsoft Edge Secure Network. This feature, which results from a collaboration between Microsoft and Cloudflare, enables data encryption and prevents user interception in the online space.

According to XDA Developers, you will not have access to the new Edge browser feature now, even if you are a member of the Microsoft Developer Channel. At first glance, Microsoft Edge Secure Networking seems to have the same functionality as Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 service.

It means that we are dealing with a proxy service or VPN. This service encrypts the user’s browsing data so that it cannot access even by an Internet service provider. Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 service also hides user location data to access restricted websites or content in your area.

Microsoft Edge VPN capability

You will need to log in to your Microsoft account to use Microsoft Edge Secure Networking.

The Edge browser allows the user to use one gigabyte of data per month on a secure network, and data on data consumption is stored in a Microsoft account. Most VPN services are not free, so this is not surprising.

Cloudflare does not collect any data that leads to user identification, and any web browsing data is deleted every 25 hours. Data usage information is also deleted at the end of each month.

The new page of the Microsoft Support site contains full details, including how to activate the Edge VPN service, which means that the Microsoft Edge Secure Network will probably launch soon. Users using the Dev or Canary version of Microsoft Edge will receive this feature shortly. After a while, a specific networking feature will be released for users of both the Beta and the original version. Once publicly available, secure networking will be open through the three-point menu in the corner of the screen.

Microsoft Edge is not the only browser that offers a VPN service. Opera has had a free VPN for a long time, and in 2020 Mozilla launched a paid VPN service for its browser.
