New Instagram features pose a threat to user privacy, and in this article, we explain how to disable them.
Instagram has recently unveiled new features that can somewhat compromise user privacy. One of these features is the latest “Friends” tab in the Reels section, which shows videos liked by you and your friends.
Another recently introduced feature is the display of a map and users’ locations. In this article, we will teach you how to turn off the display of likes and location sharing on Instagram.
How to Disable the Display of Likes on Instagram
With the new Instagram update, a new section called “Friends” will be displayed in the Reels tab. In this section, you can watch only the videos that your friends and followers have liked.
However, be aware that the videos you have liked will also be displayed to others in this section. Another point to mention is that this feature is enabled by default.
Therefore, if you intend to turn off this new feature, you must follow these steps:
- First, go to your profile and navigate to the settings section (the three horizontal lines icon) at the top of the screen.
- Then, scroll down and find the “Activity in Friends tab” option.
- After that, select the “No one” option so that the videos you have liked will not be shown to any user.
- There is also another option in this section titled “Followers that you follow back,” which you can select to allow these people to see your likes and comments.
Disabling the Instagram Map
With this new update, Instagram has also added a map to its platform. This Map can map your last activity location with your followers and still display the location of your posts.
Although this feature has not yet been rolled out to users in all countries and is not enabled by default, if you have activated it, you might want to reconsider your decision.
To turn off this feature, you need to follow these steps:
- First, go to your messages section.
- At the top of the screen, tap on the Map.
- From the Mape top right, select Settings, and then check the box next to “No one.”
- Finally, tap the “Update” option at the bottom of the screen to save the changes.
