Samsung Announced That The Galaxy Watch 5 And Watch5 Pro Can Now Use Built-In Sensors To Measure Skin Temperature.
The collected data will improve the Cycle Tracking feature in the Samsung Health app, which relies on calendar-based tracking.
The Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro were launched in August 2022, featuring a previously unused infrared-based temperature sensor.
Cycle Tracking is a Samsung Galaxy Watch feature that allows female users to track their menstrual cycles and predict their next period. This feature helps women focus on their sexual health and better understand their bodies. This feature is available through the Samsung Health app installed on the Galaxy Watch.
According to Samsung, tracking changes in skin temperature provides a reasonable estimate of the body’s basal temperature at different times throughout the day. This allows the smartwatch to track ovulation and better predict when the next period will start.
To this end, Samsung is using an algorithm developed by Natural Cycles as part of their partnership announced earlier this year. Samsung says that the smartwatch’s temperature data is stored locally and encrypted for added security.
However, the details state that this feature is for 18 years and older users.
Cycle Tracking can also evaluate the symptoms entered in the daily log and provide valuable suggestions, such as planning a quiet day to deal with fatigue.
The feature is currently available through the Samsung Health app to users in 32 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and England.
